20 Families Had Previously Rejected
A Rare Adoption
After being rejected by her mother and twenty other families,
Alba’s life changed when Luca Trapanese adopted her.
Luca, a 41-year-old single gay man from Italy, said his situation “destroys stereotypes about fatherhood, religion, and family.”
Facing Challenges
Adoptions by single or gay parents in Italy are rare.
Luca recalled, “I was told that I’d only be given a child with an illness, a severe disability, or behavioral problems.
I was absolutely OK with that.”
Alba, born with Down syndrome, had been refused by 20 families before Luca welcomed her at 13 days old.
A Father’s Joy
“It was the first time I’d held a newborn baby…
But, when I first held Alba, I knew I was ready to be her dad,” Luca shared.
“I was overcome with joy.
I felt she was my daughter straight away.”
Life Together
Alba is social, playful, and determined.
Luca and Alba enjoy traveling and daily life together, sharing love, fun, and support through challenges like the pandemic.
