Tragic Death of Promising Intern
Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a 21-year-old congressional intern, was fatally shot near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in D.C. on July 1. Authorities believe Eric was “simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Two others were injured but survived. Police are investigating and offering a $25,000 reward for information.
Eric’s Future and Impact
A rising senior at UMass Amherst studying finance and political science, Eric interned with Congressman Ron Estes. Estes said, “I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone who entered our office with a cheerful smile.” Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal added, “Eric embodied what it means to be part of a community committed to learning, growth, and civic engagement.” Neal reflected, “Any parent will tell you there is no greater pain than the pain of losing a child.”
