Lightning Strike Kills Two Hunters
Authorities confirmed that Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko, both 25,
were killed by lightning while elk hunting in Colorado’s Rio Grande National Forest.
Conejos County Coroner Richard Martin said their injuries showed signs of “a pretty intense electrical jolt,”
with small burn marks typical of lightning cases.
Search and Discovery
The men were last heard from on September 11 and reported missing two days later.
Their vehicle was found with gear untouched, sparking major search efforts.
After nearly a week, their bodies were discovered on September 18.

Porter’s fiancée, Bridget Murphy, shared he had sent regular updates until his final message before the storm.
Loved ones called both men skilled outdoorsmen, but officials warned that mountain weather can be deadly even for the prepared.
