Pilot’s chilling final words before deadly
Tragic Crash of Voepass Flight 2283 in Brazil
On August 9, 2024, Voepass Flight 2283 crashed near Vinhedo, Brazil,
killing all 62 people onboard, marking the country’s deadliest aviation accident in nearly 20 years.
The ATR 72-500 was piloted by experienced crew
Captain Danilo Santos Romano and First Officer Humberto Alencar e Silva, each with over 5,000 flight hours.
The flight encountered severe turbulence, thunderstorms, and icing.
Fifteen minutes in, the plane’s airframe de-icing system shut off unexpectedly.
Despite repeated ice detector warnings, the system was not immediately reactivated.

As the aircraft neared Guarulhos, airspeed dropped dangerously,
and the plane entered a spiral descent, ultimately crashing into the ground and bursting into flames.
Among the victims were eight doctors, four university professors, and two children.
At least ten passengers missed the flight due to gate confusion.
Eyewitnesses described seeing the plane spinning before impact.
Investigations revealed no engine failure, but ice buildup and de-icing management issues contributed.
ANAC later suspended Voepass’ operating license, citing safety violations.
An anonymous source claimed previous de-icing faults were ignored under company pressure.
