Big Update in Case On House Democrat

Judge Orders DHS to Remove Posts About Rep. McIver Case

Several Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posts criticizing Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.)

have been removed following a federal judge’s order,

after she was charged in May with assaulting ICE officers during a visit to Delaney Hall immigrant detention center in Newark.

McIver has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 17 years in prison if convicted.

Her legal team argued that DHS statements,

including posts calling the visit a “political stunt” and saying it put “the safety of our law enforcement agents and detainees at risk,”

were extrajudicial and prejudicial. Judge Jamel Semper agreed,

ordering the removal of the posts to prevent bias in McIver’s ongoing trial.

Most posts were deleted, though one controlled by a journalist remains online.

The judge warned that “fact-free” social media posts from government officials could taint a future jury pool.

McIver continues to contest the three-count indictment alleging interference with federal officers.
