She said she felt a sense of confusion and loss—not for the building itself, but for what it symbolized.
She emphasized that the White House is “the People’s House” and questioned the decision, asking, “Who are we?
What do we value and who decides that?”
Hillary Clinton also condemned the demolition, writing, “It’s not his house. It’s your house. And he’s destroying it.”
During construction, current First Lady Melania Trump and her staff were relocated.
Although she was initially attached to her “little, tiny office,”
President Trump has claimed she now supports the renovation plans.
