Sheriff’s deputy, father of 3, shot and killed

On a quiet Thanksgiving evening in Waggaman, the kind of night meant for family and gratitude,

35-year-old Deputy Shaquille Guerin ended up bleeding in the street outside a home on Marigold Lane.

Colleagues who had worked beside him for eight years in the

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office fought to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The alleged shooter, investigators say, was his 32-year-old brother, Darius, who fled before deputies arrived.

A brief pursuit followed, with Darius reportedly refusing to stop, then trying to escape on foot before being taken into custody.

A gun was later found along his path. As charges of second-degree murder move forward,

a wife and three children are left without a husband and father, a
