Former President Bill Clinton Speaks up
Clinton on Leadership, Power, and Accountability
In a candid interview on CBS Sunday Morning (June 1, 2025), former President Bill Clinton voiced serious concerns about American leadership, accountability, and the state of U.S. politics—taking direct aim at both Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Asked if Trump’s power has limits, Clinton said, “Oh yeah,” crediting the judiciary—including Trump-appointed judges—for curbing him. Still, he warned that attempts to evade legal boundaries are dangerous: “If they succeed, they could inflict lasting harm not just on Trump himself, but on the nation.” Clinton described Trump’s leadership as authoritarian, saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this before in my lifetime… It’s my way or the highway.” He insisted that most Americans reject such behavior and said Trump has already “paid a price” through public disapproval.
Clinton also condemned Trump’s alleged efforts to punish law firms for defending opponents: “That ain’t America,” he said, stressing the need for a fair legal system and national unity.
Turning to President Biden, Clinton addressed questions about his mental fitness, sparked by audio recordings from 2023 where Biden appeared forgetful and struggled at times. While acknowledging the concerns, Clinton defended Biden’s ability to lead: “I thought he was a good president,” adding that in conversations with him, “I never once left thinking he was unfit.”
