The Aviators: Trailblazers in Naval Aviation
Lt. Cmdr. Evans and Lt. Serena N. Wileman, both from California, were respected naval aviators who served with distinction. Evans participated in the historic all-female flyover at Super Bowl LVII, marking “50 years of women in naval aviation.” Wileman, a member of the “Zappers” squadron since 2021, was known for her “dedication to excellence.”

Deployment and Tragic Crash
Both aviators had recently returned from deployment in the Middle East, supporting operations in the Red Sea and over Yemen. During a routine training flight, their EA-18G Growler crashed near Mount Rainier. The terrain and weather hampered recovery, but teams confirmed both had died. The cause is still under investigation.

National Mourning
Commander Warburton said, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of two beloved Zappers.” President Biden added, “They were among our nation’s finest.”

Legacy and Inspiration
Their courage and service continue to inspire future aviators as the Navy honors their memory.
