Quick-Thinking Couple Honk Their Way

Minnesota Couple Saves Lives in Texas Flash Flood

During deadly flash floods in central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend, Minnesota couple Lyle and Sue Glenna acted quickly to warn others. As water levels rose rapidly—“a month’s worth of rain fell in just hours”—the Glennas honked their truck horn to alert campers.

Their son, Wes, said, “They were able to get into their truck and honk a warning out to a lot of people at the campground, which definitely helped some people make it out.”

The flood hit in under ten minutes, forcing the couple to flee with only their truck and clothes. Wes shared, “They lost everything… It was deeply traumatic.”

Lyle suffered a heart attack but is now recovering, thanks to community support. A GoFundMe campaign praised their bravery, stating they “were able to save many lives at the campground by honking their horn and waking people up.” Donations have exceeded $24,000, helping them start over.
