Bill Cobbs, Beloved Actor, Dies at 90

Veteran actor Bill Cobbs, known for films like The Bodyguard and Night at the Museum, passed away peacefully at his California home on June 25 at age 90. His brother, Pastor Thomas G. Cobbs, shared that Bill found “eternal rest with his Heavenly Father.”

Born Wilbert Francisco Cobbs in Cleveland in 1934, he served as a radar technician in the U.S. Air Force before starting acting at 36. He began in community theater and debuted on screen in 1974’s The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, leading to over 100 film and TV roles.

Cobbs was loved for playing wise, grounded characters across genres, making every role memorable. Colleagues admired his “warmth, professionalism, and enduring love of storytelling.”

Beyond acting, Cobbs was a humble mentor and family man. He leaves behind a legacy of “talent, faith, and kindness,” remembered as a true cinema legend.
