Legendary Songwriter Richard M. Sherman Dies at 95
Richard M. Sherman, the acclaimed composer behind beloved films like Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book,
died at 95 on Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Musical Legacy
With his brother Robert B. Sherman, he won two Oscars and three Grammy Awards for their memorable songs.
The duo also created hits for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005.
Tributes Pour In
Disney CEO Bob Iger called Sherman “the embodiment of what it means to be a Disney Legend.”
Pixar’s Pete Docter praised his “infectious joy for life,” while historian Leonard Maltin said,
“Their music had an upbeat outlook that spilled over into Richard’s life.”
Final Farewell
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gluck, and children Gregory, Victoria, and Lynda.
A funeral will be held May 31 at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.
