A Child in Danger

On May 9, residents in Savannah’s Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood spotted a 16-month-old wandering near busy streets.

Officer James Hurst responded and took the child to Memorial University Medical Center for evaluation.

A Father’s Instinct

When the frightened boy cried, Hurst asked, “Can I hold him?”

Minutes later, the child fell asleep on his chest.

“With all my body armor and gun belt, it became heavy, so I sat down on the bed and let him rest,” he said.

More Than a Badge

Hurst, a father and former U.S. Army Black Hawk crew chief, explained,

“This job is so much more than just chasing the bad guys.

It is about serving the citizens…and doing what they need you to do.”

Safe and Secure

Police confirmed the boy is safe and stable.

The case has been referred to Georgia’s Department of Family & Children’s Services.
