Mr. Lewis, a veteran principal, had long trusted his instincts about students hiding silent struggles.
One day, he noticed Mia, a quiet 9-year-old, collecting untouched food from the cafeteria with unusual care.
“This wasn’t the behavior of a mischievous child looking for extra snacks; it was something more solemn.”

Concerned, Mr. Lewis gently confronted her. “Mia,” he said, “I noticed you taking food from the cafeteria.
Can you tell me why you do that, sweetheart?” Mia replied softly,
“My mom works really hard, but sometimes we don’t have enough to eat.”

“It was like she was collecting it, as if she needed to store it somewhere safe.”
