Abrego Garcia May Be Deported to Third Country
Release from Jail
Accused MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia walked free from a Tennessee jail Friday under strict home detention, rejoining his family in Maryland. He will wear an ankle monitor and can only travel for work, church, or approved activities. His lawyer Sean Hecker said, “Today, Kilmar Abrego Garcia is free. He is presently en route to his family in Maryland, after being unlawfully arrested and deported, and then imprisoned, all because of the government’s vindictive attack on a man who had the courage to fight back.”
Criminal Background
Garcia, a Salvadoran national, faces federal human smuggling charges after a 2022 traffic stop revealed eight passengers in his car. DHS confirmed he is “a ranking member of the MS-13 gang by a proven and reliable source.”
Deportation Issues
Previously deported to El Salvador by mistake, DHS now plans to send him to Uganda. ICE notified his lawyers he could be deported “no earlier than 72 hours from now.”
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem criticized the judge, saying, “By ordering this monster loose on America’s streets, this judge has shown a complete disregard for the safety of the American people.” The White House called his release an “insult.”
