Air India Crash Kills Over 100 in Ahmedabad
A tragic air disaster struck western India Thursday morning when an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, en route to London. All 242 passengers and crew — including 53 British nationals and over 160 Indian citizens — are feared dead.
“There appear to be no survivors,” confirmed Ahmedabad police commissioner Gyanendra Singh Malik, who also warned “some locals would also have died” after the aircraft crashed into a medical college hostel, sparking a huge explosion.
Footage showed the plane’s final descent before impact. Wreckage was found embedded in the hostel structure.
Boeing stated: “We are in contact with Air India regarding Flight 171 and stand ready to support them.”
King Charles offered condolences, saying, “My wife and I have been desperately shocked by the terrible events… Our special prayers and deepest possible sympathy are with the families and friends of all those affected.”
