Powerful Quake Strikes Asia

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit southern China, northern Thailand,

and Myanmar early Monday, creating a regional emergency.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake’s epicenter was in a mountainous area on the China-Myanmar border,

striking at 3:42 a.m. at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

Casualties and Damage

Officials confirm “dozens of deaths, hundreds injured, and many more trapped” in collapsed buildings.

Hospitals are overwhelmed, and emergency shelters are housing displaced families.

Northern Thai cities, including Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, ordered “mass evacuations” due to fears of aftershocks and unstable infrastructure.
