Bruce Willis’ wife gives huge dementia update

Bruce’s Diagnosis and Decline
Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023.

His wife, Emma Heming Willis, described the early symptoms as “alarming and frightening,” noting he became quieter and distant.

“He felt a little removed, a little cold, not like Bruce.”

Living Separately for Care
In a recent ABC special, Emma revealed Bruce now lives in a separate one-story home nearby to better manage his condition.

“I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters,”

she said, referring to their children, Mabel and Evelyn.

Impact on Family Life
Noise worsened Bruce’s condition, so the decision limited activities like sleepovers.

“I isolated our whole family, and that was by design…That was a hard time,” Emma said.

Ongoing Support
Despite his declining communication—

“He can’t communicate anymore, and he has difficulty recognizing people”—Emma shared, “It’s a house that is filled with love and warmth and care and laughter.”
