Elizaveta “Liza” Gushchina, 45, died after falling 290 feet while attempting to take a selfie on her birthday in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg, Russia.
Accident After the Jump
She had just completed a bungee jump, reportedly “screaming with joy” as she swung from an “elastic rope.”
But when climbing back up the tower to take a photo, she wasn’t secured with safety ropes.
“She secured herself to a rope used for rope jumping, but did not set the required safe length…
slipped on a wet board, fell from a height, and died,” REN TV reported.
Son Witnessed the Fall
Her 23-year-old son Nikita, who had given her the jump as a birthday gift, watched the tragedy unfold.
Company and Investigation
“In tragic circumstances, experienced jumper and mother-of-two Liza has passed away,”
said a spokesperson from 23block, the company operating the site.
Authorities have launched an investigation into safety compliance.
