Burger King Responds to Viral Firing of Single Mom
Viral Video Sparks Outrage
A video of Nykia Hamilton, a single mom of three in South Carolina, went viral after showing her running a Burger King alone. “She’s doing the fries, the burger, the chicken sandwiches. She’s doing everything by herself,” a customer said.
Fired for Being Late
Hamilton later revealed on TikTok, “[Burger King] fired me because I’ve been late because of my kids… My kids come first.” A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $108,000 for her.
Burger King’s Statement
The company told the New York Post: “Terminations are the decision of the franchisees… [She was let go] due to repeated attendance issues.” They added, “No team member should ever be left to run a restaurant alone… we’re disappointed our policy wasn’t followed.”

Commitment to Better Staffing
Burger King said it is working to ensure all locations have enough staff and proper support for employees.
