Air India Crash Tragedy

On June 12, shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, an Air India flight AI 171 crashed just 625 feet above the ground, four miles from the runway. The plane was heading to London Gatwick with 242 people on board.

Casualties and Survivor

Deputy Commissioner Kanan Desai confirmed that 265 people have died so far, including those on the ground. The only known survivor is 40-year-old British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.

Pilot’s Final Words

Before the crash, the captain reportedly said on the radio, “Mayday […] no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.” The plane is believed to have hit a medical college dormitory during the pilots’ attempts to control it.
