Cracker Barrel Apologizes, Removes

Cracker Barrel Faces Backlash Over Controversial Decor
A Cracker Barrel restaurant in Connecticut came under fire after a customer noticed what appeared to be “nooses on the ceiling.” The restaurant later clarified that the cords were not nooses but part of an antique soldering iron display. Still, the company admitted, “We are sorry this happened… It was an oversight.”
The issue gained attention after Twitter user Alfonso Robinson shared images of the hanging cords and questioned their appearance. Cracker Barrel responded quickly, saying, “The décor item—an antique soldering iron with an old cord—should not have been displayed.” The restaurant removed it immediately.
Activists spoke with the restaurant manager, noting the conversation was productive and respectful. They also highlighted that experiences shape how people perceive symbols, especially those with painful historical associations.
Many on social media called for a broader review of the chain’s decorations to prevent similar issues. In response, Cracker Barrel reiterated its commitment to inclusivity, stating, “We work hard to create a welcoming atmosphere… and are actively reviewing our restaurants to ensure this kind of mistake doesn’t happen again.”
The incident highlights the need for awareness and sensitivity in public spaces to ensure all customers feel safe and respected.
