Priscilla Pointer Dies at 100 After 80-Year Acting Career
Priscilla Pointer, a veteran actress known for portraying strong maternal roles, died peacefully at 100. She frequently acted alongside her daughter, Amy Irving, including in Carrie, where she “portrayed Amy Irving’s mother.”
Pointer began her stage career in the 1940s with Broadway hits like A Streetcar Named Desire before taking a break in the 1950s to focus on her family. She returned in the 1970s, earning acclaim in the soap opera Where the Heart Is.
Her film and TV credits include Blue Velvet, The Onion Field, Dallas (as Rebecca Barnes Wentworth), and The Falcon and the Snowman. In 1987, she starred in Rumpelstiltskin, directed by her son, David Irving.
Pointer co-founded the San Francisco Actor’s Workshop with her first husband, Jules Irving. She is survived by her children David, Katie, and Amy.
