Every Time My Husband ‘Works Late,

A Growing Doubt

After 18 years of marriage, I thought Caleb and I had a strong bond. Recently, though, things felt different. He became distant and started taking extra delivery shifts to make up for lost income. I didn’t question it—until I noticed his location kept pinning to the same house every night.

“Why was he staying so long if it was only a straightforward delivery?” I asked myself, suspicion gnawing at me. One night, driven by worry, I decided to follow him.

The Unexpected

I arrived at a modest, well-lit house—not the shady place I feared. When I knocked, two small children opened the door. A teen quickly stepped in protectively. “May I assist you?” he asked.

Then Caleb emerged from the kitchen, shocked. “Emily?” he said. I demanded answers: “You end up here every time you work late… Tell me the truth, please. What is going on?”

He asked the children to go to the kitchen, then invited me inside.

The Real Story

Caleb explained he first delivered food there weeks ago. “Those two young children answered the door when I knocked. There were no adults present.”

The kids’ mother works long hospital shifts; their father isn’t around. Moved by their loneliness, Caleb began staying longer and bringing food. “I was unable to ignore it… These kids needed someone.”
