Expert reveals if Putin could be arrested when he lands in the US
Putin Meets Trump in Alaska for Ukraine Peace Talks
Vladimir Putin arrived in Anchorage on August 15 for a summit with Donald Trump aimed at ending the Ukraine war. While Trump said Putin is ready to “make a deal,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Ukraine “will not give their land to the occupier.”
This is Putin’s first meeting with a U.S. president on American soil since 2015. The last U.S.-Russia summit was in 2021, before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
An International Criminal Court warrant for Putin’s arrest over alleged war crimes does not apply in the U.S., which is not an ICC member. Weapons expert Hamish de Bretton-Gordon said the warrant “means nothing” in non-signatory states.
Alaska offers symbolic and strategic value, bordering Russia’s Big Diomede Island. Governor Mike Dunleavy called it “the most strategic location in the world.” Putin will leave without facing legal action.
