Families Remember Two Children, 8 and 10,
Tragic Loss Sparks Call for Change
Two Minneapolis families are mourning the deaths of Fletcher Merkel, 8, and Harper Moyski, 10, after a tragic incident at Annunciation Catholic School.
The children are remembered for their joy and love.
“No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain,” said Harper’s parents, calling for improved community safety and mental health support.
Remembering Fletcher and Harper
Fletcher’s father, Jesse Merkel, said his son loved the outdoors and cooking, and asked that people “remember Fletcher for who he was.
” Harper’s laughter “could light up every room,” her parents shared, adding that her younger sister is heartbroken.
Bravery Amid Tragedy
Eighteen people were injured, including 15 children. Quick actions by staff and students saved lives.
Merkel thanked them: “The outcome could have been far worse.”
Turning Grief Into Action
As vigils continue, both families pledge to advocate for change so Fletcher and Harper’s memories live on—not as statistics, but as a legacy of hope.
