Family of Three Dies in CE-060 Highway Tragedy
A devastating crash on July 16 claimed the lives of Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their 3-year-old son, Miguel. The family was traveling from Várzea Alegre to Juazeiro do Norte for a medical procedure when their car veered off the CE-060 highway near Sítio Piripiri around 7 a.m.
According to TV Verdes Mares and the Ceará Military Fire Department, the vehicle “plunged into a stream,” with water approximately five meters deep, complicating rescue efforts.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Concerns have been raised about road conditions and driver safety along that stretch.
“What should have been a hopeful journey for the well-being of a child ended in unimaginable loss,” leaving the Cariri region in mourning and renewing calls for improved highway safety.
