Federal Crackdown on Border Crimes in Texas

Federal authorities recently carried out multiple enforcement operations across Texas, reflecting the government’s strict approach to border security and immigration violations.

Violent Smuggling Attempt in Katy

In Katy, Texas, Kevin Dominguez was stopped at a border checkpoint when a canine alerted agents to a person hidden in his car trunk. Instead of cooperating, Dominguez reversed his vehicle, hit an agent, and fled. After a chase, two individuals were seen running from the vehicle—one of them an undocumented immigrant from Honduras.

Dominguez was arrested the next day and later pleaded guilty. On January 24, 2024, he was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. Officials emphasized the risks law enforcement officers face, saying the case “highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement and the swift judicial response to such threats.”

Motel-Based Smuggling Operation in El Paso

In El Paso, Border Patrol agents tracked a smuggling ring using local motels to hide undocumented immigrants. After observing suspicious activity involving cars with temporary plates, agents arrested Yair Alejandro Aguilar-Flores and two other men connected to transporting migrants.

Seven more undocumented individuals were later found, and Jesus David Reyes-Villagran admitted to using a motel room to hold and move migrants. All face criminal charges, with some looking at up to 10 years in prison.
