Florida moms call cops on sons after $50K school
Florida Middle Schoolers Accused of $50K Library Vandalism
Two Florida boys, ages 12 and 13, face juvenile charges after deputies say they caused more than $50,000 in damage to the Friendship Elementary School library in Deltona.
The Incident
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the pair broke in on September 13,
shattering glass, tossing books, overturning furniture, and spray-painting graffiti.
Deputies responding to a fire alarm found the media center in ruins.
Identified by Their Mothers
Surveillance images posted online showed two masked youths, one in a Monster Energy cap.
Tips followed, but the key calls came from the boys’ mothers, who recognized them.
“To look at the damage and cause more,” investigators said, the boys returned a second time before confessing.
Reactions and Debate
The teens—Felix Cohen Romero, 12, and Bentley Ryan Wehrly, 13—face burglary, trespassing, theft, and mischief charges.
Online, many praised the mothers’ “act of accountability,” though some worried a juvenile record could harm their future.
