Global Alarm As US Bombs Iranian Nuclear
U.S. Airstrikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites
On June 21, President Donald Trump announced U.S. airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. He said, “Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.” Trump called the mission “a spectacular military success” and warned, “Future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier” if Iran does not seek peace.
Iran’s Reaction
Iran condemned the strikes strongly. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi called the attack “extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,” adding on Twitter that it was “outrageous and will have everlasting consequences.” He urged the world to respond.
International Response
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported “no increase in off-site radiation levels,” indicating the damage might be limited. The agency will “provide further assessments on the situation in Iran as more information becomes available.”
Concerns Over Iran’s Nuclear Capability
Although Iran denies aiming for nuclear weapons, experts warn otherwise. The Institute for Science and International Security said Iran could produce enough weapons-grade uranium in “as little as two to three days” and might make material for 22 bombs within five months if enrichment continues.
