Before the Air India crash, Dr. Komi Vyas, her husband Dr. Prateek Joshi, and their three children took a “devastating last selfie” to mark “new beginnings” as they moved to London. The family was among the 241 people who died when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport.
Crash Details
The plane took off at 1:40 p.m. local time but quickly lost control and crashed into a crowded area. CCTV footage showed the aircraft descending steeply before exploding in a “lethal fireball.” “It all happened so quickly,” said survivor Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.
Possible Causes
Experts suggest the crash may have resulted from “multiple bird hits wherein both the engines lost power,” causing a stall at a critical phase of flight. “The aircraft never truly made it airborne in a meaningful way,” said aviation safety expert Lt. Col. John R. Davidson.
