Hegseth Refers To U.S. Military
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth referred to Fort Bragg and Fort Benning by their former names while announcing the elimination of “diversity, inclusion, and equity” (DEI) programs in the military, aligning with President Donald Trump’s executive orders.
The bases were renamed in 2021 to remove Confederate ties, becoming Fort Liberty and Fort Moore. Hegseth emphasized a focus on warfighting over “wokeness.”
Trump also challenged Joe Biden’s climate agenda by issuing executive orders to boost domestic fossil fuel production, declaring an “energy emergency”to protect new drilling projects.
These measures reverse Biden’s climate policies, including rejoining the Paris Agreement and imposing strict environmental regulations. Trump’s orders support mining critical minerals, streamline energy infrastructure, and promote offshore drilling.
Analyst Jeff Reynolds suggested Trump’s aggressive stance stems from witnessing Biden’s extensive climate actions. Trump’s policies aim to fulfill his “drill, baby, drill” campaign promises, marking a dramatic shift in U.S. energy policy.
