Houston Police Track Down,
On Wednesday, a manhunt for a suspected gunman accused of shooting and killing a deputy ended in a shootout, in which the suspect was killed. Authorities say the suspect, 56-year-old Robert Lee Davis, fatally shot Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesus Jesse Vargas while he was attempting to serve a warrant. Reportedly, Davis was a repeat offender.
The Houston Police Department took to X on Wednesday evening to provide an update on the situation, confirming that the suspect had been shot and killed. “A short time ago, the suspect was shot by law enforcement officers behind the businesses near the original shooting scene here on Stella Link. The suspect is deceased,” the post read.
Authorities reported that Vargas was shot in the head while serving the warrant in a Dollar General parking lot around 11:30 a.m. Vargas and his partner located the suspect’s vehicle in the area where the fugitive opened fire and fled the scene as they approached. Vargas was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
