Husband Plants 6,000 Trees To Honor Decea
A Lasting Tribute
In 2012, Howard Howes created a touching memorial for his late wife, Janet, by planting thousands of oak trees on a six-acre field near his farm in Wickwar, Gloucestershire.
Heart-Shaped Design
The forest forms a heart-shaped clearing pointing toward Janet’s childhood home.
“I came up with the heartfelt idea of forming a symbolic heart in her memory,”
Howard said, placing a seat inside where he can reflect on their life together.

A Hidden Wonder
The heart remained a secret until hot air balloonist Andy Collett spotted it.
He called it “the most remarkable view he had ever seen from the sky, a powerful and hidden expression of love.”

Ongoing Remembrance
Howard added hedges and planted daffodils in the clearing’s center.
He occasionally visits the site to sit quietly and remember Janet, keeping her memory alive in this living tribute.
