I Found Strange Bumps on My Son’s Head

Scalp Bumps in Kids: What to Know

Discovering bumps on your child’s scalp can be worrying. While many cases are harmless, others may need attention. “Staying calm and observing closely is the first step.”

Common Causes
Scalp bumps often come from folliculitis—“small, red, itchy bumps” caused by bacteria, fungi, or irritation. Other possibilities include sebaceous cysts—“smooth, oily lumps”—and painful boils that can swell and fill with pus.

Other Triggers
“Allergic reactions, insect bites, eczema, or psoriasis” can also cause bumps. Warning signs like “fever, severe pain, spreading swelling, or trouble swallowing or breathing” need urgent care.

At-Home Care
Use warm compresses, keep the scalp clean, and avoid harsh products. Natural soothers like diluted tea tree oil or aloe vera may help, but “always consult a doctor before trying new treatments.” Most scalp issues are mild and short-term with proper care.
