In 1977 She Saved Burned Baby,
1. A Photo She Never Forgot
Amanda Scarpinati grew up cherishing a 1977 black-and-white photo
of a nurse holding her after she suffered “third-degree burns” as a three-month-old.
The image comforted her through years of surgeries and bullying.

2. Searching for the Nurse
Amanda said, “I was picked on, ridiculed, and tormented growing up,”
and often looked at the photo of the woman “who seemed to be genuinely concerned for me.”
After a 20-year search, she posted the images on Facebook asking,
“I would want to know her identity… Please spread the word.”

3. Viral Breakthrough
The post went viral.
A former hospital nurse identified the caregiver as Susan Berger,
who remembered Amanda clearly:
“She was simply so collected and reliable. It was incredible.”

4. A Reunion After 38 Years
Amanda and Susan reunited emotionally,
with Susan saying, “I feel privileged to be the one to represent all the nurses who cared for Amanda.
