From Indiana to Isolation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born in Lafayette, Indiana, in 1962, William Bruce Rose<\/p>\n

grew up in a rigid Pentecostal household where music<\/p>\n

and television were often labeled \u201cevil.\u201d He later described<\/p>\n

the environment as \u201csuffocating,\u201d marked by physical abuse,<\/p>\n

fear, and instability. Learning at 17 that the man he believed was<\/p>\n

his father was not biological shattered his sense of identity and fueled rebellion.<\/p>\n

Anger, Music, and Escape<\/strong><\/p>\n

School offered little comfort, with bullying and<\/p>\n

behavioral diagnoses compounding his rage.<\/p>\n

Music became his outlet\u2014church choirs, piano,<\/p>\n

and school choruses gave him purpose.<\/p>\n

After more than 20 arrests, he fled Indiana<\/p>\n

in 1982, determined to reinvent himself.<\/p>\n

Becoming Axl Rose<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Los Angeles, he became Axl Rose and<\/p>\n

formed Guns N\u2019 Roses. Their debut Appetite<\/em><\/p>\n

for Destruction<\/em> grew through touring and<\/p>\n

songs like \u201cWelcome to the Jungle\u201d and<\/p>\n

\u201cSweet Child o\u2019 Mine,\u201d eventually becoming<\/p>\n

the best-selling U.S. debut album.<\/p>\n

Fame brought acclaim and chaos.<\/p>\n

Though inducted into the Rock and<\/p>\n

Roll Hall of Fame, Axl declined to attend.<\/p>\n
