Lily Allen Opens Up About Her Abortions
On her podcast Miss Me?, singer Lily Allen shared she’s had multiple abortions but “can’t remember exactly how many… I want to say four or five.” Co-host Miquita Oliver responded, saying she’d had “about five” herself.
Allen’s honesty sparked mixed reactions. Some praised her openness, while others accused her of being “irresponsible.” She addressed the criticism, recalling a time when a man paid for an abortion and she misread it as romantic. “He didn’t even follow up with me afterwards.”
Allen pushed back against the need to justify abortions with tragic stories. “Just: ‘I don’t want a f***ing baby right now.’ That’s reason enough.”
Writer Alison Wilson summed it up: “Imagine how much more palatable this would be if Allen had talked about how terrible she feels… This is all to do with conditional acceptance.”
