Israel issues new update on Greta Thunberg
Greta Thunberg Deported After Gaza Aid Flotilla Intercepted
Detention and Deportation
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was deported from Israel after
being detained with over 170 activists attempting to reach Gaza on the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Photos showed Thunberg in a gray sweatsuit as she and others were flown to Athens.
Israeli officials said all detainees’ legal rights were “fully upheld.”
Allegations of Mistreatment
Reports from The Guardian and Sweden’s foreign ministry claimed Thunberg faced poor conditions,
including a “bedbug-infested cell,” dehydration, and rashes.
Israel dismissed these as a “pre-planned fake news campaign.”
Humanitarian Mission
The flotilla of more than 40 vessels carried 437 activists, parliamentarians,
and lawyers seeking to deliver aid to Gaza, where the blockade has caused severe shortages.
Political Fallout
Supporters called Thunberg’s detention “harsh and politically motivated,”
while Israeli authorities insisted their actions followed “legal and humanitarian standards.”
