Keir Starmer issues warning to Trump ahead of Putin peace talks

UK Warns Against Trusting Putin Ahead of Trump Peace Talks

Downing Street has cautioned against trusting Russian President Vladimir Putin as US President Donald Trump prepares for Ukraine peace talks in Alaska. “Never trust President Putin as far as you could throw him,” said the UK Prime Minister’s spokesman, stressing continued support for Ukraine and President Trump.

The UK emphasized that any ceasefire must not allow Putin time to “re-arm, restrengthen, and then go again.” As a result, the UK is pushing for strong preparations through the European-led “coalition of the willing,” a peacekeeping initiative launched in March.

Though no leader-level meetings are planned this week, “operational planning continues at a military level,” Downing Street confirmed. The spokesman added, “If anything, the next step really is reaching that ceasefire.”

European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, maintain that peace “cannot be decided without Ukraine,” and any current front lines are only a “starting point of negotiations.”
