Man Moved by Message on Forest Grave
Unexpected Discovery
While walking in Kiroli Park, West Monroe, Louisiana, Zach Medlin and his dog Serena stumbled upon a small gravestone hidden under pine straw.
It read: “Buddie, 1928–1941, born a dog and died a gentleman.”
A Touching Tribute
Medlin was moved by the inscription and reflected,
“Knowing that Buddie provided comfort to his owners during hard times is truly heartening.
All dogs deserve a grave marker.”
Conflicting Stories
Local legends say Buddie was a Boy Scout camp mascot who once barked to alert others of a drowning boy.
But a 1993 note by Mrs. Dee Strickland revealed Buddie belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Jones and was buried in the park they loved.
Lasting Legacy
Whether hero or loyal pet, Buddie’s grave honors a life of devotion.
His story reminds visitors that even in quiet places, love and loyalty leave their mark.
