New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani
Historic Victory
In a landslide win, 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani has been elected New York City’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor,
defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa with over 1.03 million votes.
The election saw record turnout — the highest in fifty years.
A Message of Hope
At his Brooklyn rally, Mamdani declared, “New York will remain a city of immigrants,
built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant.”
London’s Sadiq Khan congratulated him, saying, “New Yorkers faced a clear choice – between hope and fear – and… hope won.”
Taking Aim at Trump
Addressing Donald Trump, he said, “I have four words for you: turn the volume up!”
and vowed, “To get to any of us you will have to go through all of us.”
Policies and Promise
Mamdani plans rent freezes, free childcare and transit,
and a $30 minimum wage, funded by higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy.
