A Highway Standoff Turned Rescue
Drivers on Interstate 696 in Huntington Woods, Michigan, were frustrated when traffic came to a standstill — until they learned why.
13 Trucks, One Life
A man was threatening to jump off a bridge.
State Trooper Michael Shaw responded and had an idea:
call truck drivers to park under the bridge to shorten the fall.
“We try to do anything we can to give that person hope,” said Shaw.
Working Together
Thirteen semi-truck drivers quickly lined up side by side beneath the overpass, creating a barrier that could save a life.
The highway was shut down, and traffic was redirected.
A Life Saved
After four tense hours, negotiators succeeded.
The man was safely removed from the bridge and taken for psychological help.
“The day was saved,” authorities said, crediting the trooper, the truckers, and everyone involved.
