Omar Faces Tough Discipline From GOP House After
Call for Removal
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) says he will introduce a resolution Monday to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.)
of her seats on the House Budget and Education Committees, accusing her of disparaging Charlie Kirk after his assassination.
Omar’s Remarks
In an interview with Zeteo, Omar said Kirk had “downplayed slavery…
by saying Juneteenth shouldn’t exist” and criticized claims that he only wanted “civil debate.”
She later clarified she found his death “mortifying” and accused Republicans of taking her comments out of context.
Republican Pushback
Carter told Fox News Digital: “Disparaging Charlie Kirk’s legacy, a God-fearing, honorable man…is disgusting.”
He added, “No one who justifies the assassination of someone with different political views than them deserves to sit on a committee.”
Past Controversies
Omar has previously faced GOP-led removal efforts over remarks condemned as antisemitic and
for describing 9/11 as “some people did something.”
Democrats have defended her, calling such actions partisan retaliation.
