Plane crashes during takeoff in Kentucky

Tragic Crash in Louisville

A UPS cargo plane burst into flames shortly after takeoff from Louisville,

Kentucky, on Tuesday evening, killing at least seven people and leaving others missing.

The aircraft, UPS Flight 2976, was bound for Honolulu when it crashed about three miles south of the airport around 5:15 p.m.

Massive Fire

The jet struck several buildings, including a fuel facility, igniting a huge blaze fueled by 38,000 gallons of jet fuel.

Residents nearby were told to shelter indoors as firefighters battled the flames late into the night.

Officials Respond

Governor Andy Beshear said, “Kentucky is hurting right now after a heartbreaking day.”

At least 11 others were injured, with the three UPS crew members still unaccounted for.

Investigation and UPS Statement

Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed over 100 firefighters were on site.

UPS said, “Our heartfelt thoughts are with everyone involved… We are engaged with the NTSB’s investigation.”
