Responds Sharply to President Trump’s
Biden Rejects Trump’s Claim Over Autopen Use
Trump’s Accusation
Former President Donald Trump recently claimed that Joe Biden used an autopen—a device that mimics a signature—to sign key documents during his presidency. He offered no proof but suggested Biden didn’t personally authorize major decisions.
Biden’s Response
Biden pushed back strongly in a statement to ABC News: “Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false.” He called Trump’s comments a “distraction” and rejected calls for an investigation into his mental fitness.
Legal Use of Autopen
The Justice Department has previously confirmed that using an autopen is legal, provided the president authorizes its use. Historically, presidents have used it while traveling or under time constraints.
