Rest In Peace To Heroes Who Died In This Tragic
A City in Mourning
Baltimore is grieving after three firefighters—Lt. Paul Butrim, firefighter/paramedic Kelsey Sadler,
and EMT/firefighter Kenny Lacayo—lost their lives battling a blaze in a vacant rowhouse.
A fourth, John McMaster, remains hospitalized on life support.
Deadly Collapse
The tragedy struck when the structure in the New Southwest/Mount Clare neighborhood partially collapsed, trapping the crew.
Sadler and Lacayo went into cardiac arrest at the scene and could not be revived.
Tributes and Sacrifice
Mayor Brandon Scott said, “Baltimore owes them the deepest gratitude and respect.”
Fire Chief Niles Ford called them family, vowing to honor their courage.
Collectively, the fallen contributed 44 years of service, including Butrim’s heroic rescue of a child in 2015.
A Call for Reform
With nearly 16,000 vacant homes, officials say the tragedy underscores urgent safety concerns.
As Baltimore mourns, the sacrifice of its firefighters stands as a stark reminder of the risks they face daily.
