Scandalous TV preacher passes away at age 90

Jimmy Swaggart Dies at 90
Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, once a major figure in American Christianity, died on June 15 at age 90 after a cardiac arrest. His family said he had been in critical condition. A message on his Facebook page read: “Brother Swaggart has finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior.”
Humble Beginnings to Stardom
Born in Louisiana in 1935, Swaggart began preaching as a teen. He and his wife, Frances, lived in poverty early on, surviving on $30 a week. His radio ministry began in 1969, followed by a hit TV program in 1971, reaching millions.
Scandal and Decline
Swaggart’s career unraveled after two scandals involving sex workers. His emotional confession—“I have sinned against You, my Lord…”—was widely televised. The second incident prompted no apology: “The Lord told me it’s flat none of your business.”
