School Warns Students Not To Chant ‘USA’
California School Sparks Debate Over “USA” Chant
A California high school faced backlash after advising students not to chant “USA” at games and rallies, saying it could appear “intolerant.”
Vista Del Lago High School officials said the goal was to promote empathy and inclusivity, not to ban patriotism.
Senior Ryan Bernal questioned the decision, saying, “Why can’t we chant USA?
We’re all American. It doesn’t matter what your skin tone is or where you’re from.”
The principal clarified that “USA” chants are welcome at “appropriate times,”
such as after the national anthem or Pledge of Allegiance,
adding that the chant can sometimes “communicate an unintended message.”

District officials confirmed there’s no ban on the chant, but reactions online were fierce.
One parent said, “Be thankful the students voiced their love for our country.”
Another wrote, “Are you serious! You kids chant USA as loud as you can! God bless you all!”
