White House Rethinks Press Room Access
The White House is planning a redesign of its press briefing room, possibly replacing traditional outlets like CNN and The New York Times with digital creators. A senior official said it’s about “adjusting to how people consume media today,” including influencers and podcasters.
The WHCA pushed back, warning, “Online reach or popularity metrics shouldn’t determine press access.”
Critics fear deeper government control over press logistics. “When it comes to press freedom, symbols matter,” noted a Columbia ethics expert.
While no final seating plan is announced, one thing is clear: front-row status is no longer guaranteed.
